Individual Therapy in West Palm Beach, Florida

It’s a refreshing change to be in a room with someone who is fully focused on helping you overcome what’s holding you back.

For many people, individual therapy is the very first time they’ve ever experienced this — and it changes everything. Having an honest conversation, with no distractions and no pressure, with someone who understands what you’re going through and has the clinical experience to help you work through it, is incredibly helpful and validating.

That is one of the reasons why individual therapy is at the core of the clinical care at Helios West Palm. It is the point where each person's most personal work happens, where treatment plans are developed, and where the relationship between patient and therapist becomes the foundation for lasting change.

If you’ve tried other types of therapy but feel ready for something deeper, Helios West Palm has a therapeutic program designed for you. Our admissions team is available to help with any questions, discuss the specifics of our program, and determine whether our facility is right for you.

What is the difference between individual therapy and group therapy?

Individual therapy is a one-on-one interaction between a patient and a therapist in which the complete focus is on that patient’s history, current mental health issues, and future goals. Group therapy involves multiple patients being treated together under the clinical guidance of a trained therapist, working through shared issues. Both methods of therapy are an integral part of our treatment program, and most patients engage in both simultaneously.

What types of individual therapy are available at Helios West Palm?

Our therapists use a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches to address each patient’s unique clinical diagnosis, treatment history, and individual needs. Therapeutic approaches include, but are not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. The form of therapy used is determined by the patient’s clinical diagnosis, history, and treatment plan.

How often will I have individual therapy sessions?

Patients receiving treatment at Helios West Palm will receive multiple weekly sessions of individual therapy — significantly more than what most outpatient treatment programs offer. Frequency of sessions is determined by the patient’s clinical diagnosis, needs, and treatment plan.

Does insurance cover individual therapy in a residential program?

Most major health insurance plans cover individual therapy as part of a residential mental health program. Our admissions team will review your benefits to determine coverage prior to the beginning of treatment.

What should I expect from my first individual therapy session?

The purpose of your first session is to help establish a connection with your therapist and begin building a relationship. You should not expect to have your life figured out, nor should you feel pressure to dive into deep issues at that first session. Building a therapeutic relationship is an ongoing, evolving process that develops at a pace that feels comfortable through the guidance of your clinician.
