Family Therapy Program in West Palm Beach, Florida

Mental illness does not only affect the person who is diagnosed — it also affects their loved ones and family in different ways. Mental illness reshapes communication patterns, disrupts trust between family members, and creates distance where previously there was closeness and connection, leaving loved ones feeling helpless, confused, and hurt.

At Helios West Palm, we understand that the family is an integral part of the patient's recovery, not just a passive presence in it. Our family program provides a structured and supported environment for both patients and their loved ones to engage in meaningful activities, understand what has happened, rebuild damaged relationships, and prepare for the future as a unit.

What is the goal of family therapy?

Family therapy goals vary for each family but typically include improving communication, reestablishing trust, addressing the relational effects of mental illness, educating family members about their loved one’s condition, and building a family system that can support long-term recovery. Family therapy goals are developed in conjunction with the patient’s overall treatment goals.

Do all patients at Helios West Palm participate in family therapy?

Family therapy is available as a component of our treatment program and is encouraged where clinically appropriate and consented to by the patient. Not all patients will have family engagement at all times, and that is perfectly fine. Our clinical team will meet with each patient to discuss how family involvement through family therapy can fit into their overall treatment plan.

Can couples therapy be incorporated into the family program?

When clinically appropriate, couples counseling can be offered as part of the family program, provided the patient consents and their relationship has been affected as a result of mental health challenges. Please speak with our admissions team for more information about what is available as part of your treatment plan.

Can DBT be combined with other therapies?

Yes — and at Helios West Palm, it always is. DBT is most effective when integrated with individual therapy, CBT, trauma-informed care, and medication management as part of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.

Is family therapy covered by insurance?

Most major health insurance plans cover family therapy services offered in conjunction with residential mental health treatment. Our admissions team will verify your insurance benefits and clarify what is covered prior to you making any decisions.
